Now you see it now you don’t

She was gonna rent out the room.

Then she wasn’t.

Then it was on again.

We met at her place. Talked a couple hours. Parted agreeing to talk the next day about whether to proceed.

She emailed. I emailed back. Heard nothing then nothing then nothing after another email and a couple calls.

Finally heard from her the following day. Day after that (today) we talked at length about many things housing-related.

I was upfront and direct. Was she? Seemed so.

Appearances can be deceiving.

We planned for my move-in in a couple days. Only finalizing bridge to cross was meeting her two kids, scheduled for tomorrow.

Several hours later I received a (cowardly, IMHO) text. “I’ve decided this isn’t going to work. Good luck.”

WTF?!

I’m done trying to figure out the women of Denver!

BTW, I still have no place to live though I’ve been (illegally) told to vacate by Thursday.

Under the shitty circumstances, I’m considering holding owner Daniel to landlord-tenant state law (of which he is entirely ignorant).

No time soon but at this clip of housing/roommate hell, I can see myself putting great distance between me and Denver eventually.

That or suing the crap outta these constant rotten scoundrels (kidding?)

We’re that others could be held legally liable for said. I’d never hafta work another day as an overeducated overqualified dishwasher again!

But that’s another tale…

Sue the most recent bastard, and sue that crazy bastard who changed the locks on you. Our society may be extra-litigious, but then again, litigation wouldn’t be used so much if it wasn’t effective, and if you don’t bring the hammer down, who else will get bit by their behavior? Besides, don’t think of it as sinking a level; think of it as karma.

@Brandon – I’m gonna seek out an agency offering free legal services and/or guidance, firstly for the Rampager who changed the locks; as for the current Thoughtless Selfish Prick, because the situation is current and active, I’m not sure yet how I’ll proceed.

For sure, unless I find a place too good to pass up, I definitely will not move out, leaving myself homeless, to oblige his *illegal* instruction. Particularly since I’m more familiar now with the laws than he is, a reference to proper legal procedures within the scope of tenant-landlord is worth mentioning and that contrary actions as well as those severe, such as changing locks (he’s been told about that and thought pretty low of it) can result in legal action.

That’d accomplish a few things: buy me some much-needed time, inject a dose of reality into his (self-centered universe) and provide me a leg, in the form of a crutch, to stand on as I soldier my way with bent crippled legs through the hellacious thickets that are Denver housing.

As an observer of a friend undergoing these same experiences, I’d tell him/her the same as you did: Sue the snowstorm bastard and perhaps the present one too. “Do it for them. Do it for the world and renters. And do it for yourself. You need the help and support. Learn to receive it and be done with these assholes and move on with *your* life.”

That’s what I’d say. In absolute firm terms. So thanks for the perspective and input. I totally get it.

I was just thinking that you must have some really great things coming in your life for all of the crap you are dealing with in Denver! I really hope things get better for you and that you can find a stable home. I am really glad you are still working and interviewing for other jobs. You will land on your feet eventually…and this will all be a distant memory (trying to think positively form you).

@trayflow – You must dismiss foolish notions that a long chapter of crap returns one equal in good. Doesn’t work that way. If it did, I’d be making beaucoup bucks at a job I love and is suited to my talents/skills for the misery of impoverishment and *begging* to work *at anything* for three years in Tacoma. Three very long hard years.

What do I do for a living? Wash dishes three days a week and prep work the remaining two.

Oh, and I’ve not been interviewing for other jobs excepting that one (and that is a temporary 4-month gig). I’ve put the job search on a back burner ’cause my energy’s too friggin’ tied up in finding a new place to live every two weeks!

Think as positively as you wish — someone in the room has to, eh?! — but just be aware that life challenges or defies ’em at near every turn. 😉

I would have been out of Denver by now. “Duck Fenver”, lol

Totally agreeing with the people that you need to sue both Daniel *and* PsychoBeeotch.

@katie – “I would have been out of Denver by now.” – No you wouldn’t, not without money and destination with high employment probabilities. “Duck Fenver” – lol.

I was going to say how stunned I was by your bad luck, but it isn’t even a matter of luck! It’s people refusing to behave as people ought, responsibly and considerately – making the effort to make life bearable for others.

As they don’t seem to be likely to do that, do seek out those agencies, know where you stand and DO come down on them like a ton of deserving bricks.

@aubrey -Any “expectation” of cohabitators behaving in a civil, respecting or considerate manner has been beaten outta me.It’s now a matter of sussing out the avenues that can assist in helping put right — or righter – the terrible wrongs and damage done.
