There is good news concerning the misspelled last name of a police officer on the memorial dedicated yesterday on the one-year anniversary of the shooting deaths of the Lakewood four.
The owner of the cafe (site of the memorial) responded to my email.
“The slight was unintentional, but very unfortunate. The permanent sign is still being built, this is a temporary sign that was hastily erected just for the unveiling. I am very embarrassed. I have personally apologized to Mark’s widow and daughter. This will be corrected within the next 48 hours.”
There is a lesson in this, a teaching, a reminder. Words do matter. Actions do matter. One individual can have an impact. Perhaps in the action of speaking up, a significant slight and blemish in the honoring of a good man in service were rescued from permanency.
My work is done.

Yes, one individual can have an impact. Well done.

@Emjay – Indeed and thank you. And it’s in keeping with how I like to do things: well. Good was accomplished all around.

See you did make a difference and you should feel proud!

@mkirk – Proud? No ma’am. Right action is free of ego and is its own reward.

Good karma, then!
In other news, I guess you already this (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20101130/od_nm/us_potatoes_diet) but the person going on a all-tater diet has ended his action with surprising result.

@Capra – Yes, su’pose there’s good karma though that thought hadn’t crossed my mind until you mentioned it. The Potato Man, can’t say I’m surprised. Loved his Thanksgiving “tur-tato!”
