Holy Brrrrr, Batman!

Grab a hot toddy an’ sit for a spell. Today’s about the white stuff.

This area (Puget Sound/western Washington) isn’t snow country. In unseasonable form, day yester delivered an Arctic front that blasted frigid temps and dumped a couple inches of snow in the metro regions (more in outlying areas). Last time this occurred this early in the season was 25 years ago.

When I awoke to the big white surprise, I paused not even for the morning beverage and instead bundled up, grabbed the Minolta and strolled the park a snowball’s throw away.

My footsteps say:

I (heart) snow

autumn hadn't yet cleared the scene!

Had I headed a couple miles south instead of west, I might’ve come upon this transit bus. None of the passengers was hurt. Evidently the driver lost control on icy roads — a reigning occupational hazard in western Washington, where rain and neither ice nor snow temper drivers’ fondness for speeding and tailgating along with other moronic behaviors.

No fresh snow today, only crisp chilly temps — a day’s high of 28, average is 48, and lows into the teens and single digits. Winter 2010 is gonna be a doozy. Batman might wanna exchange his silky cape for shawls of fleece.

At the moment we’re getting freezing rain. Haven’t checked the forecast yet, but I’m sure there will be snow soon. One of our friends fell this morning; thankfully, she’s okay! I threw a mixture of sand and ash on the wood deck and sprinkled de-icer on the driveway. Anyways, thanks for the pics. 😀

@countrybydesign – No award-winners those pics but taking them in a rare and early snowfall was a treat to be sure and doubly appreciated for it is only this year, after 14 without, that I had a camera again. Crappy cell-phone cameras just don’t cut it! 😉

The first snow is always the prettiest to my mind though I’d like a winter without snow or ice once again. I love your footprint heart.
