On Moose, Marilyn and mmm-mmm gross!

From the mishmash file:

Moose Loses His Mojo

Moose, the traveling minstrel cat, has taken a beating recently. First a badly-injured paw and ear mites. Now his tail’s hurt. Could be a possible dislocation with a definite wound, possibly from a fight. He wasn’t himself.

He was listless, his lassitude such that he sought seclusion in dark spaces. He emitted elongated scratchy meows of irritability and discomfort, highly out of character for this Zen samurai cat of few words. He bellowed and swiped at my attempts to closely examine his tail injury. Even a cautious gentle palpation returned a fierce don’t touch.

Moose unwell

I let him be, let his owner know and let nature take its course. Fortunately nature favored his recovery. Last night he appeared with his tail raised rather than down and dragging for the first time in a couple weeks. There are signs of healing. His irritable whining has abated. The bounce is back in his step. His confidence is returning along with the light in his eyes. Moose got his mojo back.

Marilyn Lives

I was to help an elderly woman at her home last week. Marilyn’s a spry, short, hunched woman and a hoot. On the day before our appointment, I called to confirm. Ring ring ring ring ring ring rang the phone — all day on the day prior to and on the day of our appointment too. She lives alone. I was concerned and worried. All variety of sad and bad imaginings floated in my mind.

I arrived to find her at home safe ‘n’ well. Turns out I’d stored her phone number one digit off. Marilyn lives. Whew!

Glad Mojo is better, Marilyn alive, and snickering at the last picture

Poor Moose – I’m glad he’s on the mend.
